Keepers of The Waters

Bernice discovered a resource in Keepers of The Waters; an organization dedicated to the preservation of water through community-based, art driven projects.  Betsy Damon founded Keepers in 1991, with the assistance of the Hubert Humphrey Institute in Minnesota and has since done numerous art installations and performances around the globe.  She was also awarded the Top Honor Award from the Waterfront Center in Washington, D.C in 1998.

The website can be viewed at Keepers of The Water.

  1. Betsy Damon is my hero! She has done so much all over the world with her beautiful work to raise the consciousness about water. In Beijing, she froze dirty river water and transported it to a public square so that people could look at the sad color of the water as the ice melted. Courageous, huh? The people really got her message she has been invited back many times..

  2. Finding out about Betsy and her mission really makes me feel empowered to make a difference in the world. I’ve started thinking about the massive dam we have here, above Redlands, in the crook between two mountain peaks. I’ve started thinking about why the free running creek coming down from the mountain is full only 10 or so miles from town and turns completely dry by the time it hits Redlands. I’ve thought about trekking along its banks with the kids on a water investigation.

  3. How can you sell something that is only on your property for a minute, maybe less. If anything the water belongs to us all! Don’t buy bottled water and let the bottling companies sell you something that was yours in the first place. I love the creeks and water as a whole. We aren’t going to get more anytime soon so lets do all we can to help preserve but not manufacture it! Water is like the heart and sole of mother nature and i want her to live forever!

  4. Jace, I am so glad you mentioned something about the bottled water. This is so wrong… so very bad for our system. Plus it is so easy to get a Brita Filter and cary a stainless steel bottle. Right? Thanks so much for your comment.
